A bit of history:
Six Mile Point (Hickory Grove Point) is featured in James Fenimore Cooper's novel The Deerslayer. In the story, it is the place where the protagonist, Natty Bumppo (also known as Deerslayer), attempts to escape from Hurons. He moves through the shallow waters along the lakeshore, then moves inland up Red House Hill, hiding under a log, ultimately being surrounded and captured near Six Mile Point.
